Welcome to Shushilan Shushilan is one of the largest NGOs operating in south-west Bangladesh. Set up in 1991 to meet the needs of the many disadvantaged communities in the region, Shushilan now runs over 20 separate projects within a number of programme areas: helping the poor, human rights and good governance, empowering the community, building capacity, and sustaining the environment and dealing with emergencies. Shushilan originally worked in just four upazilas in Satkhira district. It remains primarily focused primarily on the south-west, and has offices throughout the region. But it now works across the country - in five out of Bangladesh’s six divisions. It is registered under the Department of Social Welfare (94/1991) and the NGO Affairs Bureau (768/93), with offices throughout the region. Its head office is in Kaliganj and its main administrative office is in Khulna. It employed on 30 June 2008 almost 500 paid staff and over 1,000 volunteers. It is supported by many international partners, including government development agencies, as well as by the Bangladesh government. This web site is ‘work in progress’. Please bear with us while we build it up. When the site is complete, you will be able to find out about all our work. In the meantime, do get in touch with us at
